Have you ever heard that sensational TV and Radio commercial touting a website named DoubleMySpeed.com and its miraculous CyberDefender products? If you have, I hope you did your homework and stayed away from it. Really, when was the last time you ever saw an “As Seen On TV” product that was of superior quality? DoubleMySpeed.com has at least 3 aliases I know of, but the parent company behind them all is CyberDefender Corp. CyberDefender is like a snake oil salesman run out of town after town who keeps coming back with a new look and name. I know them as CyberDefender, DoubleMySpeed, MyCleanPC and MaxMySpeed. Not all malware is spyware, yet all spyware is considered malware, and viruses too for that matter. And while most of us already have virus protection, why do we need spyware protection if malware is really the grandad of it all? What is malware anyway? Malware pretty much includes the whole spectrum of spyware, trojans, rootkits, viruses and more. As for viruses, they used to be known for their destructive payload which was designed to attack data or system files. As for spyware, its most evil goal is identity theft. The motivation behind all this varied from certified cybercriminals, disgruntled employees, hackers with a flame for fame, to script kiddies just trying to see if they could do it.
